Individual Course Descriptions:

  • Resume Writing
    EVERY job seeker should have a resume. A resume that puts your experience, education and/or training, in the best possible light. We will discuss versus 2 pages; the difference between a job duty and an accomplishment; employer expectations and much more! Bring with you your information. Let us help you get started. Typing services are available at no cost to you
  • Interviewing Skills
    Learn to make a great first impression and answer questions calmly and correctly at interviews. Interviewing has changed dramatically in the last six months so get the most up-to-minute advice. Learn to handle group interviews, tough questions, and how to answer the questions you wish they wouldn't ask! Also covers how to handle illegal questions, behavioral questions, and mental processing questions. Plus learn the number one way to turn an interview into a job offer!
  • Career Exploration
    Learn what careers are in demand in our area and how you can qualify for these high demand careers. Identify your transferable skills, discover what careers will give you the best opportunity for job satisfaction, and learn to repackage your skills for jobs of the future. Although no career is completely "recession proof", there are careers that are in demand during good times and bad. Learn how you can qualify for these good paying careers.
  • Job Club
    A small, informal group, facilitated by an Employment Counselor; that meets weekly to network, share job leads and articles of interest, and to discuss various job search techniques. Join us when you can!
  • Job Applications (on-line and paper) & Cover Letters
    Learn why applications have to be neat and complete and what an effective cover letter sounds and looks like, and why the following statement is still true: "Before we can sell ourselves in person, we must sell ourselves on paper".
  • Navigating the Civil Service System
    Explore the opportunities in civil service available to people with all levels of education and experience. Learn how to find the jobs that match your career goals and how to apply. You will receive a list of upcoming exams, information on where to find resources to prepare for exams and much more.
  • Linkedin
    Linkedin is a professional networking website which can be used effectively to find work and is also being used by recruiters to find prospective candidates. Learn how to use LinkedIn as part of your job search. This workshop includes how to develop your profile, how to connect with people in your industry, how to search for jobs, and how to find information on your target companies.
  • Job Search over 50
    What skills and attributes do the older workers in particular, bring to a job? In what ways does the job search differ for the older worker? In this unusually tough economy, learn how to turn potential liabilities into assets.
  • Basic Computer
    A hands-on introduction to the basics of the computer - learn how to set up an email, how to email, how to copy and paste.

Wyoming County Community Action

Let's Get Working
Learn the most effective strategies for landing the kind of job you want. You will learn how to set goals, how to assess your strengths, how to market yourself, and much, much more.

Resume Writing
Receive step-by-step instructions on how to develop your best, most eye-catching resume. You will also receive advice for developing effective cover letters and thank-you notes. Typing and photocopying of your finished product are available at no cost.

There is no charge for the workshops but you must make a reservation by calling the NYSDOL at 786-3145.
