WDB) Emerging Worker Committee
What
is the GLOW WDB Emerging Worker Committee?
The GLOW WDB Emerging Worker Committee is a volunteer board
that addresses youth workforce issues and is comprised of
GLOW private sector WDB members, Representatives from Education,
Employment and Training, Youth Bureaus, Vocational Education,
Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Social Services,
Law Enforcement, Public Housing, Job Corps, Parents of Eligible
Youth, and Youth.
What
Does the GLOW WDB Emerging Worker Committee Do?
The GLOW WDB Emerging Worker Committee addresses issues impacting
youth success, provides oversight and technical assistance,
recommends policies and procedures to the GLOW WDB, reviews,
recommends, and monitors program funding, establishes linkages
between youth organizations, and encourages collaboration
between youth providers in an attempt to minimize duplication.
When
Do They Meet?
The first Tuesday of February, May, October and December.
Additional meetings may be called if necessary.

and support for success."
What
are some responsibilities of the GLOW WDB Emerging Worker Committee?

Oversee
the youth funding under the GLOW Workforce Investment Act
(WIA)
-
Develop
the portion of the GLOW WDB Local Plan that relates to Youth
under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
-
Oversee
the Request For Proposal (RFP) to ensure WIA youth grants
and contracts are awarded on a competitive basis
-
Oversee
the monitoring and evaluation of youth programs funded under
WIA
-
Coordinating
youth activities authorized by WIA
-
Ensure
the following program elements are available to eligible
youth in GLOW:
1. Tutoring, study skills training, and instruction leading
to completion of secondary school, including dropout prevention
strategies;
2. Alternative school settings, as appropriate;
3. Summer employment opportunities that are directly linked
to academic and occupational learning;
4. As appropriate, paid and unpaid work experiences, i.e.,
internships and job shadowing;
5. Occupational skill training, as appropriate
6. Leadership development opportunities, which may include
community service and peer-centered activities encouraging
responsibility and other positive social behaviors during
no-school hours, as appropriate;
7. Supportive services (i.e., childcare, transportation,
work clothes)
8. Adult mentoring for the period of participation and a
subsequent period, for a total of not less than 12 months;
9. Follow-up services for not less than 12 months after
the completion of participation, as appropriate;
Comprehensive guidance and counseling, which may include
drug and alcohol abuse counseling and referral, as appropriate
GLOW Emerging Worker Committee Schedule of Meetings for 2019
Meetings will be held the 1ST Tuesday of February, May, October, and December.
The location of the meetings will be at the Genesee County Career Center , 587 East Main Street, Batavia.
Please note that an additional emergency meeting can be called at the request of the Chair.
